Approximately 85 high school choral singers will gather on Ƶ’s campus on September 26 to 28 for the second annual Ƶ Honor Choir Weekend. The attendees, recommended by their individual choir directors, will come from Iowa, Minnesota, and Indiana.
The Honor Choir Weekend is “an opportunity for motivated student singers to receive encouragement in their passion for singing, and it will help them get a jumpstart on their choral training for the 2024-25 school year,” says Dr. Ryan Smit, director of choral activities at Ƶ.
Over the course of the weekend, the students will “receive training for becoming strong leaders in their own choir and be challenged to approach the process and product of music making from a Christian perspective and for the glory of God,” says Smit.
The honor choir will be conducted by Smit. Rehearsals will be held Thursday evening, Friday, and Saturday morning. The weekend will conclude with a final concert at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 28.
