Faculty Applicants

The ͹Ƶ community confesses that the Scriptures are the Word of God. As God's infallibly and authoritatively inspired revelation, the Bible reveals the way of salvation in Jesus Christ, requires a life of obedience to the Lord, and provides the key to understanding, to finding and interpreting purpose in life. The educational philosophy of ͹Ƶ is based upon what historically is known as a Reformed (Calvinistic) worldview.

Faculty, staff, and administrative members of ͹Ƶ are expected to acknowledge the need for mutual support and obligations and be sensitive to the expectations of the broader ͹Ƶ community. In addition to making a personal statement related to their task at ͹Ƶ, applicants must agree with the expectations found in the faculty handbook & staff handbook, including the following:

  • They are called to acknowledge Christ's lordship over all of life and to provide a Christian education for ͹Ƶ students. They are also expected to demonstrate their commitment to the mission of the university by enrolling their children, when appropriate, in Christian day schools. See Faculty Handbook 7.5.9 for information regarding grade school and high school scholarships.
  • Affiliating with one of the local confessionally Reformed congregations (adhering to the three forms of unity—The Belgic Confession, Heidelberg Catechism, and Canons of Dort and/or the Westminster Standards)—that actively supports the mission of ͹Ƶ.
  • , namely the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort.
  • They will seek to obey Scripture's instructions that all are called to "put off" things like "sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed" as well as things such as "anger, rage, malice, slander and filthy language," and to "put on" an attitude of "compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience and, of course, love" (Colossians 3). More specifically, prospective members of the ͹Ƶ community are expected to agree with its sexuality, gender identity, and sexual conduct policy.

Please state their relationship to you; at least one person should be able to speak about your Christian commitment. Letters of recommendation on your behalf may also be included.

5. Personal Statement: Please write a 3-5 page statement outlining (1) your religious convictions, (2) your understanding of Christian higher education, and (3) your approach to teaching, research, and writing. Throughout your personal statement, please interact with and comment directly upon relationships between your ideas and The Educational Task of ͹Ƶ and The Educational Framework of ͹Ƶ. In particular, be sure to respond to ͹Ƶ’s four curricular coordinates (religious orientation, creational structure, creational development, and contemporary response). Hard copies of the Task and Framework are available upon request.

͹Ƶis committed to a communal hiring process for faculty members. For each position opening, the related department, division/program chair, Academic Senate members, academic affairs personnel, and the president have an opportunity to interview the final candidates. The candidate recommended for an initial term contract then interviews with members of the Board of Trustees. This intensive process helps to ensure the best mutual fit for each position and allows candidates to better understand the university community.

Reformed Perspective

͹Ƶtakes its Reformed Christian perspective seriously at all levels of faculty hiring, development, and performance review. Applicants must demonstrate a Christian faith commitment in agreement with Scripture and the basic tenets of the Reformed faith; they must also articulate how their Christian convictions are reflected in their teaching and scholarship. ͹Ƶfaculty members continually work to develop and communicate their understanding of how their Reformed worldview influences how they approach their discipline and their task as educator and scholars.
