Dr. Trista Logan joins Dordt’s education department
Dr. Trista Logan joins Ƶ as Assistant Professor of Education. She brings a passion for educating future Christian schoolteachers and experience in educating children with reading disabilities.
Dr. Trista Logan has accepted a position at Ƶ as an Assistant Professor of Education.
Logan recently completed her Ed.D. at Liberty University in Curriculum Design and Instruction. Her research interests include reading disabilities, interventions, and best practices. Logan, and her husband moved to Orange City, Iowa from Ankeny, Iowa, where she had been a Kindergarten teacher.
Logan first found out about Ƶin October 2023, when she attended the Heartland Christian Educators’ Convention.
“The moment I stepped on campus, I felt as if I were home,” says Logan. “I was overcome with such peace, joy, and wonder. I was so taken aback by this experience that I called my husband and told him what had happened. I remember telling him that the presence of God was palpable on campus and that Ƶmust be a special place. Even though the conference ended, I never went too long without thinking about Ƶand wanting to be back.”
When Ƶposted a job opening for an education professor, she decided to apply.
Logan is excited about teaching in an environment where the faculty and students share her Christian values. “We all have the same goals. We all have the same desired outcomes for our students. Most importantly, everyone at Ƶkeeps God at the center,” Logan says.
Dean for the Social Sciences Dr. Abby Foreman is excited for Logan’s background in literacy interventions and the possibilities she brings to Ƶeducation students.
“Her experience as a classroom teacher as well as her passion and scholarship on literacy will be a benefit not only for our education students, but for our local schools as well,” Foreman says. “She is an exciting addition to a team that equips education students and practicing teachers with evidence-based literacy strategies to support early readers.”
Outside of the classroom, Logan enjoys teaching and mentoring; she has coached cheer since 2011. This past fall, Logan choreographed the Iowa High School All-Star Basketball halftime show. She has coached the Ames High School cheer team for the past three years and led them to a third and second place state championships.
Logan says she is excited to have a new team to cheer for and can’t wait to become part of the Ƶcommunity.
