The community is invited to the violin and organ recital of °¼Í¹ÊÓƵ senior Karli Vreugdenhil. The free recital will be held on Friday, November 3, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. A public reception will follow.
The full range of the violin will be exhibited in Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor, with its virtuosic passages and cadenza featuring saltando bowing. Paul Schoenfield’s Café Music includes swing and jazz-like rhythms and a variety of musical styles, such as light classical and Broadway. Another highlight of the recital is Jehan Alain’s Litanies; the theme stated at the beginning continues uninterrupted and includes complex harmonies, representing the ascent of faith. Vreugdenhil will be accompanied by °¼Í¹ÊÓƵ senior Isabel Alsum of Lakeville, Minnesota. She will be joined on a piano trio by °¼Í¹ÊÓƵ seniors Aaron Galloway of Pella, Iowa (cello) and Joya Schreurs of Sioux Center, Iowa (piano).
Vreugdenhil, of Orange City, Iowa, is majoring in K-12 Instrumental Music Education. She has studied organ with Carrie Groenewold and violin with Lisa Miedema since 2020. Vreugdenhil plays violin in the Northwest Iowa Symphony Orchestra and the °¼Í¹ÊÓƵ Chamber Orchestra and accompanies the °¼Í¹ÊÓƵ Wind Symphony on piano. She participated in the 2019 Iowa All-State Orchestra and is the 2023-2024 recipient of the Roossien Organ Scholarship and the Carol Lee Zylstra Memorial Church Music Scholarship.
