Shin to hold recital on April 1

The community is invited to the voice recital of ͹Ƶ senior Tommy Shin. The free recital will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the B.J. Haan Auditorium. A public reception will follow.

Shin, of Jeon Ju City, South Korea, is majoring in Theatre Arts: Acting & Directing with a minor in Music Performance. He has studied voice with Pamela De Haan for seven semesters.

As a Theatre Arts major with a dream of pursuing musical theatre, Shin chose repertoire that features the expression of a variety of human emotions, such as loving someone or feeling lost, pleased, angry, or relieved. Selections range from Italian arias such as Puccini’s well-known “Questo amor, vergogna mia” from Edgar to selections from musicals such as “If I Were a Rich Man” from Fiddler on the Roof. Shin will sing in Korean during his performance of “In Your Dream” from the Korean musical Frankenstein.

Shin will be accompanied by ͹Ƶ senior Julia Holleman of Beecher, Illinois. Other collaborators include ͹Ƶ students Julia Visser, Lindsay Kuiper, Emma DeVries, Nathan Hopkins, Clayton Baas, Jakob Kamp, and AJ Goetsch, who will be joining Shin for a Vaughan Williams octet along with Holleman, accompanied by ͹Ƶ Interim Director of Choral Ensembles Rob Hobgood.
