The international business emphasis incorporates business, political science, and theology. This program incorporates the core business program with courses from other areas to equip you with skills to take on challenges in international business. We’ll help you fill your theoretical briefcase with all the resources you need to succeed. Challenging classroom education. Practical, hands-on application. All from a Christ-centered perspective.
Of course, you won’t simply consider and debate theories of international business. Ƶrequires an international off-campus experience. Why? So you experience the international marketplace firsthand.

What You Can Do With An International Business Emphasis
Business everywhere has become increasingly global. Dordt’s International Business majors work in a variety of fields. You might pursue a career as a financial analyst, a public affairs consultant, or a business development manager. Our graduates have also gone on to careers as economists, trade specialists, and marketing managers. Options that can take you anywhere in the world you want to go.
Accountant
An Accountant is responsible for compiling the financial operations of a company into reports.
Public Relations Manager
A Public Relations Manager monitors different trends that may affect their organization and provides suggestions on how to represent their organization in the best way based on these trends.
Logistics Manager
A Logistics Manager does the planning, management, and monitoring of their company’s logistics operations.
Career Preparation

Students who choose the international business emphasis will take an international business course, economics, political science, and theology, in addition to completing the general requirements for a business administration degree. These courses, along with six credits in an approved international off-campus experience, are designed to introduce students to the concepts behind multinational businesses.
- International Business: A study of the special problems involved in doing business across national boundaries with an emphasis on the economic basis for trade and the impact of religious, cultural, and political environments on business practice. Includes an evaluation of the management, marketing, and financial practices of multinational corporations from a Christian perspective.
- Global Economic Development: A study of economic aspects of poverty and underdevelopment in the modern world. Specific topics include the dimensions and nature of poverty in the world, characteristics and types of developing nations, theories of development, and emerging issues in development. We will also consider the implications of biblical principles for policy to promote economic development and alleviate poverty.
- International Relations: An introduction to the contemporary relations among states with a consideration of the issues of war and peace, international organizations, law, integration, political economy, interdependence, and relations among the superpowers.
- Foundations of Mission and Ministry: A study of the Bible’s teaching about the mission of the people of God and how the Christian Church understands mission and ministry. The course also explores the contextualization of the gospel in the Western and global Church.
- Engaging World Religions: An exploration of how the major world religions function in human life. Major topics will include systems of religious belief and worldview, sacred literature, symbols, rituals, and practices. Students will explore diverse religious practices by bringing the biblical and theological perspective of the Reformed tradition into dialogue with different religious systems. The goal of this exploration is to use the tools of the Reformed tradition to gain a practical understanding of different religions in order to engage people of different faiths with the gospel.
